Date set for 2012 Grand Battle!
The 2012 Grand Battle date has been set for Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Marshalltown High School. The top 16 teams will
compete team-to-team to pick the state champions. Are you reading this summer?

2011 Grand Battle
What a day! All 16 teams competed today in four rounds of short answer questions about all the books. The top
four teams then competed in a round to determine the state champions. We were treated to "A Day at the Improv"
with Tom LaVille and yummy donuts from Kwik Star. Congratulations to all the teams, we enjoyed your visit and it was
fun meeting you. We hope you'll be back next year!
A special thank you to all the volunteers, committee
members, coaches, and parents that have supported IHSBOB not only today, but all year long. Most of all, thanks
to the students that read, quizzed, studied, and discussed books they might never have read ~ we couldn't do it without
you!

Awards
Photos: We’ll
be taking lots of photos celebrating the great work your teams do. However, if you have students who do
not wish to be photographed, please have them complete the Photo Opt Out form available on the Resources page of the IHSBOB
website and bring that to our attention when you arrive.
Please bring: Your own water bottle (we’re trying to be “green”). We’ll
have water on hand and donuts (courtesy of the 3rd Ave. Kwik Star)!
Please DON’T
bring: Stuff (there will be over 100 people attending and space is at
a minimum), cell phones/MP3 players should be out of sight and sound. We wish we had space for spectators,
but we don’t. Please limit attendees to participants, coaches, drivers, chaperones.
Parking: Please park on the circle drive in front of the school on 2nd Avenue. The
entrance to the library is just inside the school doors facing 2nd Avenue (look for orange signs).
Overflow parking will be designated and emailed to you on the 14th.
Travel
safely and BE READY TO BATTLE! My cell phone is listed below should you
need immediate assistance.

Online Results Posted
Qualifiers: If you finished in the top 16 places
your team is invited to Marshalltown High School for the Grand Battle on April 21, 2011. We plan to start at 9am with
meet and greet, preliminary oral rounds, presentation, final oral rounds, awards ceremony, and end with time for lunch (bring
your own or eat on your way home). We should be finished by 1:00pm. Please RSVP your intent to attend no later
than Friday, April 1st. If you are unable to attend or do not reply, we will offer your spot to the next
alternate on the list. More details to follow.
Alternates: Hold your breath! It often happens that some of the qualifiers are unable to attend on
the date of the Grand Battle. I will contact you should that be the case.
All others: thank you so much for participating! A certificate of participation
is available at the website. Please print one for you and each of your team members. We hope you’ll compete
again next year!
Correct answers to test questions will be available starting March 18th on the classmarker.com
website. Just log in and view your tests.

Online Battle begins
The online battle for students opened today, March 1st. Students will complete multiple choice and author name tests
on the online testing site. Testing must be completed by March 15th at 10pm. Good luck to all!

Coach Survey
Coach Survey is now open! Please complete before February 24th!Coach Survey: Team coaches will complete
an online survey through Classmarker.com. The link, username and password for your team have been emailed to coahces
for the site where you will complete one survey for each team. If a team listed multiple coaches, only one coach should
complete the survey for the team and this message is sent only to the first coach listed. However, if a coach is listed
for multiple teams, they should complete one survey for EACH team. Please be careful that you are logging in for the
correct team. Requested information includes team name, school name, city name, student member’s
names, and the coach will be asked to agree to a statement regarding supervision of the student online testing. This
survey must be completed by February 24, 2011. The same testing service will be used for the student
online battle tests and serves as a way for coaches to be familiar with the service and make sure it can be accessed at school.
There is no time limit for this survey.

Please be sure to always click icons within the window when submitting
the survey. Pressing “enter” or “back” will void the test. All fields must

Please make note of the username and password for your team! It will remain the same for all
online tests! It is imperative that you sign in the correct team, if you have more than one team you coach.
